Our journey begins on a unique Podravina island – Križnica. Here, in the heart of untouched nature, we explore the Visitor Centre, where interactive content introduces us to the rich biodiversity of this area. Then, an exciting experience awaits – rafting on the calm backwaters of the Drava River. Each stroke of the paddle brings a sense of freedom as we glide through serene waters, accompanied by the sound of flowing currents, birdsong, and breathtaking green landscapes.

After our water adventure, we arrive at the Zlatni Klas Restaurant in Otrovanec, where a true gastronomic delight awaits – traditional Slavonian specialities prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

The next stop takes us to Grabrovnica, the birthplace of the great poet Petar Preradović. In his childhood home, now a museum, we discover his life and literary legacy, listening to the verses that helped shape Croatian literature. As we walk through rooms filled with old manuscripts and personal artefacts, we sense the spirit of past times and the enduring power of words.

To reflect on our impressions, we head to the Vineda Winery, where we sample the finest wines of the region. Accompanied by the heartfelt stories of local winemakers, we savour every drop of this liquid gold. With the fruity and spicy aromas lingering on our palates, we relax in a moment of perfect harmony between nature and the art of winemaking.

We end the day in Virovitica, dining at the elegant Restaurant Nostro, where modern culinary creativity meets the flavours of locally sourced ingredients. With carefully curated delicacies and warm hospitality, we enjoy a delightful evening before retreating to the comfort of Hotel Janković for a well-earned rest.

Awakening the next morning, we begin the day with a noble indulgence – the Janković noble breakfast, a carefully crafted gourmet experience inspired by the rich culinary heritage of the former aristocracy.

Our next destination is an oasis of tranquillity – the Virovitica Fishponds. Here, surrounded by vast lakes and diverse birdlife, we take a moment to reflect and immerse ourselves in the serenity of untouched nature before returning to the rhythm of the city.

Back in Virovitica, we pause at the Dora Pastry Shop for aromatic coffee and exquisite desserts – true masterpieces of flavour. While enjoying the delicate pastries and warm atmosphere, we prepare for the final, yet no less impressive, part of our journey.

Our sightseeing tour takes us to Pejačević Castle, a magnificent baroque residence that echoes the grandeur of the former nobility. Within its historic walls lies the City Museum, where we delve into Virovitica’s rich history and cultural heritage. Every room, every exhibit, and every detail unveils the intriguing past of this remarkable region.

Brimming with impressions, enriched by experiences, and carrying new memories, we conclude our two-day excursion. This was not merely a journey through destinations, but a voyage through flavours, stories, and emotions – an experience to cherish for a long time to come.
